Note: Tristan comments that Linnaeus grouping of Tournefort's three species of pinus, larix, abies seems to take into account the fruiting period only. From outward appearances the three groups seem very distinct. On closer examination, however he finds that each group is organized in the same way, but that each has developed differently.
