Note: Letter to the Secretary [Joseph Sabine], dated Blithfield, 31 Aug. 1818.
The article on the Mespilus japonica, in fact, covers 299-304, Bagot's on cultivation and the Secretary's notes giving history and description, also the plate figuring the fruit. I have included both parts since they are put together under the same running heading "Account of the Lo-quat, by William, Lord Bagot" and Bagot is dealing with a non indigenous plant in any case. I notice that Vegter has only included the pages by Sabine which describe the plant, but she omits pl. 11, which is mentioned in the last paragraph of the Secretary's note as being by Hooker from a branch with fruit from one of the specimens sent by Lord Bagot to the Society.
