Note: A forage crop from Hudson Bay area had been introduced into England and had been mistakenly called gama-grass (Tripsacum dactyloides). Vilmorin had been in contact with the Royal Society of Agriculture and had written about the so-called "gama-grass" in the 1837 ed. of Bon Jardinier. After having received seeds of the plant he realized that they were not those of gama-grass.
