Note: The more common (brown) ipecacuanha is derived from Psychotria emetica, which is briefly described here. The light (white) form, seldom used in France, comes from Asclepias curassavica Linn. In Virginia Spireaea trifoliata L. is used for the same purpose. In Guinea use is made of Boerhavia hirsuta while Periploca indica is used in Ceylon.
