This introductory part explains the arrangement of the text, divided into four sections, of which section A, pp. 13-34, is purely botanical, and so reported on a separate B-form, under the name of the author, Dr. N. Wallich, Superintendent of the Botanic Gardens. The sections following, B-D, are statistical, on the dates and means of shipping plants, their destinations or source, and number of "sorts" or "species".
