China"); coll. plants, for Hance, later sent 50,000 numbers 3000 species were new for China and 1800 new for science; the South-Chinese flora became known by him. He clombed over 60 times the mt. Tzu-mei-chan (ca. 16,000 ft.) and proved the S. China flora to have 3-20 times more species in the same genera as the European flora has. Infected by pestilence; afterwards bad health; 1891 to Europe where he got a stroke; back to Yun-nan; coll. again.; 1894 a rest-cure in Longke, coll. there also; sent 750 numbers to France (the rest being destroyed by moisture and mould); Coll. also shells.
