Made several trips in tropical Aftica, coll. nat. hist.. 1890 in German service; 1890 with Stuhlmann on the way to the large lakes; S. discovered "Maesopsis eminii" Engl.; when the goal of the tour proved not possibly to be reached, Schn. sent St. back and himself went to Congo, ill and half blind, but was murdered by Arabians. Next year the murderers were executed in Congo; Belgian govt. sent Schn.'s mss to German govt. His diaries were publ. by Stuhlmann. |
