| Notes: | On January 24, 1736, shortly after Linnaeus became horticulturist at Clifford's garden in Hartecamp, he saw a banana flowering. He invited his botanical friends to see it & immediately set to work on his first plant monograph: "Musa Cliffortiana florens Hartecampi", the preface of which is dated Feb. 20 of the same year. Later he was able to achieve the same horticultural success in Uppsala, & the fuiits of that experiment were regularly sent to the Royal household, the only one in Sweden to enjoy the fruit until the Swedish Banana Co. began importing it, almost a century and a half later. “C” form in HI biography file. |
