| Notes: | Reichenbach, H.G.; 1823-1889; born Leipzig, died Hamburg; son of H.G.L.Reichenbach; 1863 till his death prof. bot. and dir. bot. gard. in Hamburg; after Lindley's death (1865) he was the "orchid king" to whom specimens were sent from all over the world and who took offence at other people who also worked with orchids; bequeathed his herb., sketches, notations, and library to the Vienna Court Mus. on condition that the orchids and drawings were to be used only 25 years after his death. J. J. Smith having studied his types of Malayan orchids publ. in 1927 the results, with species earlier described by Blume, Lindley a.o. often the herb. contained only sketches or fragments insufficient for determination. 'Phyllanthus reichenbachianus' Sieber, 'Aerides reichenbachii' J. J. Linden, and 'Camelostalyx reichenbachii' Pfitz, were named for him. |
