Soc. of London he traveled Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, and Jamaica (1836-43); transported a rich coll. of living plants and herbarium material to England; 1845 on order of the same Soc. he traversed Mexico and California; 1848 returned to Europe where he became court-gardener in Schwetzingen. 'Lupinus hartwegii' Lindl., and plants with the term 'hartwegianus' or 'hartwegii' are named after him. |
